Recipe: Cast-Iron Skillet Cheesy Pizza
Stew’s chefs recommend whipping up a Cast-Iron Skillet Cheesy Pizza for those looking to make their own gameday snacks at home. A super-hot oven and a cast-iron skillet will help create a crust that bakes up golden and crisp under a layer of rich tomato sauce and gooey fresh mozzarella.
Servings: 6
Prep Time: 19 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 bag Stew's Freshly Made Pizza Dough
- 2 Tbsp. Stew's 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil, plus more if needed
- 1 teaspoon Stew's Freshly Chopped Garlic
- 1 cup Stew's Simply Italian Marinara
- 8 slices Stew's Fresh Mozzarella
- 1 small bunch torn fresh Basil leaves, for topping
- Stew's Crushed Red Pepper, to taste
Directions
- Let the dough come to room temperature, it will be easier to stretch or roll.
- Place a 12-inch cast-iron skillet in the oven and preheat the oven to 500°F and let heat up for 10 minutes.
- Flour a work surface then roll or stretch the dough into about a 12-inch circle. It’s fine if a little larger as you can push the edges up the sides of the skillet to create a larger lip.
- Carefully remove the skillet from the oven.
- Add the olive oil to the skillet and brush over the surface and up the sides of the pan.
- Carefully transfer the dough to the skillet: pressing the dough up the edges of the pan slightly.
- Mix the chopped garlic into the marinara sauce and spread over the dough.
- Layer the mozzarella slices evenly over the sauce.
- Add freshly torn basil leaves.
- Sprinkle with red pepper flakes to taste.
- Brush any exposed dough edges with olive oil for extra browning.
- Lower the oven heat to 400°F and bake on the lowest rack until golden brown and crispy, 20 - 25 minutes.
