Stew Leonard’s to Open Second Food & Wine Store
in New Jersey on May 17, 2024
Clifton, N.J. – (April 25, 2024) – Family-owned and operated Stew Leonard’s Farm Fresh Food and Wine will open for business on Friday, May 17, 2024, in Clifton’s Styertowne Shopping Center. The grand opening of the new 56,000 square foot grocery and wine store marks Stew Leonard’s eighth farm fresh food store in the tri-state area and its second food and wine store in the Garden State, featuring products from more than a dozen local vendors and dozens of New Jersey farms.
Stew Leonard Sr., a milk deliveryman for his family’s Clover Farms Dairy, opened the first Stew Leonard’s in 1969 as a 17,000 square foot dairy store in Norwalk, Conn. Today, the store is best known for its farm fresh food, dedication to customer service, and a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. The company was recognized as “The World’s Largest Dairy Store” by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not and included on FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for ten consecutive years.
“Stew Leonard’s in Clifton has the look and feel of a farmer’s market,” said President & CEO Stew Leonard Jr. “Everything will be made fresh in front of our shoppers’ eyes, from bagels coming out of the oven to meat being cut to order. Plus, this is the most fun my family and I have ever put into a store, with new animatronic shows and some eye-popping decor, including a 14-foot-tall lighthouse inspired by Old Barney.”
The new store in Clifton will employ more than 300 Team Members to start, with another 200 Team Members added to support seasonal sales later in the year. In addition to several new animatronic shows, Stew Leonard’s in Clifton will also offer the same signature elements found in the other locations, including the Customer Service Rock of Commitment, a one-way aisle, and of course, a free ice cream with every $100 spent using the Stew Leonard’s downloadable loyalty app. Since more than 80% of the products sold by Stew Leonard’s are fresh, the new store’s production areas were designed as an open concept so that customers can see the store’s culinary teams hard at work.
Styertowne Shopping Center will also be the new home of Stew Leonard’s Wines & Spirits of Clifton, which will move from its current location at The Promenade Shops At Clifton to the interior of the Clifton food store, offering shoppers convenient, one-stop-shopping for fresh food as well as more than 1,200 wines, 1,100 spirits, and 350 beers. About Stew Leonard’s
Stew Leonard’s, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has seven stores in Norwalk, Danbury, and Newington, Conn.; in East Meadow, Farmingdale and Yonkers, N.Y.; and in Clifton and Paramus, N.J. Stew’s earned its nickname, the “Disneyland of Dairy Stores,” from The New York Times because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop. Stew Leonard’s legion of loyal shoppers is largely due to the stores’ passionate approach to customer service: “Rule #1 -- The Customer is Always Right”; Rule #2 – If the Customer is Ever Wrong, Re-Read Rule #1.” This principle is so essential to the foundation of the company that it is etched in a three-ton granite rock at each store’s entrance. The company’s culture is built around an acronym for S.T.E.W.: Satisfy the customer; Teamwork gets it done; Excellence makes it better; WOW makes it fun. Stew Leonard’s was included for ten consecutive years on FORTUNE magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work for" list. For more information, visit Stew Leonard’s website at www.stewleonards.com.
