Stew Leonard’s Raises Funds for National Kidney Foundation, Inspired by Jill Leonard Tavello’s Transplant Journey
WHO / WHAT: JILL LEONARD TAVELLO, a daughter of supermarket icon STEW LEONARD SR., received a life-saving kidney transplant in 2022 after an aggressive form of cancer destroyed her kidneys. In recognition of her story, and to help others still waiting, Stew Leonard’s launched a fundraising effort for the National Kidney Foundation.
From August 1–15, Stew Leonard’s invited customers of their Norwalk location to donate to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) through their in-store ‘Wishing Well’ and “Round Up at the Register” program.
On Thursday, Jill will be joined by members of the Leonard family, fellow kidneys donors and recipients, as well as Saskia Thomson (Ex. Dir – NY/CT National Kidney Foundation) and Dana Robbin (Sr. Community Outreach & Development Manager, NKF) to present the donation check.
WHEN: Thursday, September 4th at 11 am
WHERE: Stew Leonard's Norwalk // 100 Westport Ave, Norwalk, CT 06851
WHY: While Jill’s story had a happy ending, 12 people die every day waiting for a life-saving transplant. In the US, more than 37 million adults are estimated to have kidney disease.
